Prior Thoughts on the Project V survey.

A brief overview

As you may know, Project V has launched a survey for the Vampyre community to fill out. What is this survey about? This survey is about the experiences of those who deal with symptoms related to their identity. This survey has about 38 questions, some multiple choice, some where you will need to type in the details.

Our Goal

Our biggest goal is to launch a survey for the Vampyre community to participate in and gather new data to inform the community. The old studies within the community are still beneficial and serve as a resource, but we want to bring up-to-date data to the table and possibly find something new.

We hope that by seeing everyone’s participation, this will prove to the VC that we can still keep doing this. Despite the community's past lack of collaboration, we can still work together to create new resources. Perhaps this will inspire others to reflect on their own identities, maybe even start their own community surveys.

Crafting the Survey

For the longest time, I wanted to make surveys. I even spoke with another community about creating our own survey, but they put it off due to their availability. I have, in fact, three different surveys I wanted to launch at this point. Depending on how this survey goes, I will launch the others.

When I was crafting this one specifically, I threw in random questions that popped into my head from time to time into a private folder. Eventually, the questions stacked up, and I was waiting for Project V to grow more before I even decided to pitch this idea to the staff. By late 2025, I officially pitched the idea to the staff, and they were pretty supportive and excited about the survey. We took some of my original questions and added some in. We took a few weeks to establish these questions and ensure we could collect accurate data from them, since the rest of the work was already done. We worked to ensure the layout of these questions didn’t lead individuals to a specific answer. This could make the data useless, as the VC already tends to attract newcomers who are freshly awakened, listening to the consensus, and claiming they experience the same; they do this because they may feel their own experiences are not valid enough.

Participations

The survey has been out for barely a month, and we have already hit our milestone goal. I've become much more confident about the study because I haven't fully extended it to other communities yet. This has been purely based on PV’s light social media marketing, and we already hit a milestone. This is all thanks to you guys! I hope we can keep this momentum up, hit all our milestone goals, and create something fascinating together.

Essentially, we have 3 milestone goals, and we host a giveaway for each one via our Discord server.

Discord profile decor at 25 survey submissions.

Discord Nitro at 50 survey submissions.

One year of nitro at 100 survey submissions.

So if you want a chance to win any of these prizes, participate in the survey and wait for a giveaway announcement after we reach each milestone.

The Inspiration

Elizabeth Hopka actually inspired me from The Black Books. The Black Books shut down in 2024, but many of her works are still available on the Project V website. https://www.projectvampyre.org/the-black-books

The specific material that inspired me was “What is it Like to be a Blood/Energy Deprived Vampire?”

This study specifically covered the symptoms Vampyres deal with. When I was going through my own journey of understanding my own symptoms, this survey helped me. What differentiates our surveys is that we go more in-depth into why you may feel these symptoms, how you think about them, and how this may impact how you receive healthcare, etc.

My final thoughts pre survey completion

I genuinely believe this survey will teach us all something, either about ourselves, how we perceive symptoms, or how we conduct ourselves in society when seeking help.

I fear that if I go much further than that, it will alter the data and change the course of the survey.

This survey isn't meant to be groundbreaking; it's meant to be a kick-starter to improve support for the vamp identity, and for future surveys we will conduct.

I hope that, at the end of the day, if we don't find anything new, we can help someone self-reflect on their symptoms and maybe inspire others to make their own surveys.
