What is a vampyre?

Ask ten vampyres, and you’ll get ten different answers. The definition of a vampyre is extremely broad within the Vampyre community. Being a vampyre is something that could be different for everyone, as we all have different experiences but yet similar occurrences. No we do not sparkle, nor do we have super speed and strength.

The general consensus of a vampyre is someone who has needs that aren’t being met and can be fulfilled through feeding off the life force of others (blood and/or energies). The reason behind this need varies from person to person.

The reason behind why vampyres have this need to feed is once again different for everyone and their identity type. The extremity of this need can either be minimal to extreme cases. In more extreme cases, it’s not just a craving. It’s physical, mental, and deeply rooted in the self. Feeding becomes a form of balance. A reset. A return to center.

Some examples why vampyres may feed:

The Void: Some individuals believe their vampirism arises from a core inability to retain the energy they absorb. As a result, these individuals feel they "leak" energy and need to feed to replenish what is lost.

Chronic Illness: Some believe it is a medical condition and feeding alleviates their symptoms temporarily.

Learned Vampyrism: These are people who have participated in vampyrism and have either become dependent on it or use it to bring themselves back to balance.
