Safety, Boundaries, Consent

Like any community or subculture, there are a set of ethics that keeps the community safe. Here you will find various documents created by the VC. These resources encompasses how ethics can keep you safe. But first lets review ways we can be safe within the VC.

Boundaries:

Boundaries is the very shield that protects you from outside influences. Being able to harness these boundaries can prevent you from being susceptible to manipulation and harm. Boundaries can be practice in not only an online sense but in person as well. Whether you are surfing the various vampyre spaces or engaging in an in person donorship or house gathering. Boundaries should be things you are actively participating in.

Examples of setting boundaries: Turning off permissions for people to contact you privately, being vocal about your comfort level, and participating in the donorship consent contract we have crafted that gives you a space to communicate your boundaries in writing.

Consent:

While Boundaries and Consent are similar, they are different. Boundaries are personal rules and limits that define what someone is comfortable with and how they expect to be treated, while consent is an active agreement to engage in a specific activity. Consent is one of the most important ethics within the vampyre community. When participating in feedings we require consent.

Ethics and Code of Conduct:

Code of Conduct: Is the standardization of an organization or house/court. This is not for the entire VC but for the VC spaces.

Ethics:
Ethics are greatly influenced by religion, country laws, and even cultures. The VC is no different; each community may place itself under a specific set of ethics they may follow, such as the black veil, the donor bill of rights, The Totum Lex Vampyrica, etc.

You do not have to follow either. You do not need to take a code of conduct out the door with you. Nor do you need to follow a set of ethics because that's what everyone else follows.
